Remove Chrome Extension “Installed by Enterprise Policy”

Remove Chrome Extension when “Installed by Enterprise Policy”

When we thought virus infections were enough. Now we have nuisance-ware.

There are a lot of Malicious Chrome Extensions that are exploiting Chrome’s Enterprise Policies. These are typically AdWare or Redirect extensions and they are not easily removed. Sometimes you even uninstall Chrome and reinstall, and VOILA! there is that nasty little bugger again. Makes you want to find a French Mime to smack. Nothing against Mimes.

Let’s remove that Chrome Extension that says it was “Installed by enterprise policy” and slap it around a bit.

Okay. Remember, these walkthroughs are for people that know what they’re doing and we are NOT to be held responsible. If you have any doubts about what you’re doing then I have no doubt you should not be doing it.

You have already been to Chrome Extensions. You have already seen the checkbox that you cannot uncheck.

So, let’s just jump to uninstalling the extension, if possible.

No, it’s not gone, but you did uninstall it. 🙂  Bloody tribble.

Get into Developer Mode under Chrome’s extensions.

Copy the ID of the little fracking thing.

Find it in the registry using CTRL+F. HINT:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist

Now let’s find the LOCATION of any files.
chrome://policy – Show Value – Look for file path – find file path – DELETE – Scan PC with your favorite AV Sidekick
Didn’t work? Try restarting.

Still there? Hmmm…..

Restore from your daily backup before the incident occurred!

Not making a daily backup?

SHAME. TO SHAME! guy_e0

System Restore may work. Good luck with that. I did have to use Revo or Geek Uninstaller once to wipe out Chrome, then I crawled the registry and removed anything Chrome, scanned, restarted, reinstalled and all was well.

Any Apple users have extension issues under Chrome? Let me know in the little, unused, forgotten, lost, little box below.
